WHERE JAI-ALAI IS PLAYED
FRONTON
The building in which jai-alai is played.
CANCHA
The court on which jai-alai is played. The Dania Jai-Alai court is 178' 8" long, 34 feet high to red foul and 35 feet wide to the
metal/wood apron (15'6" apron).
The cancha is a three-sided court with one side open to the public protected
by a chain-link fence.
FRONTIS
The front playing wall. Dania's frontis is made of Chelmsford granite blocks set in
18 inch thick, specially hardened concrete.
REBOTE
The rear playing wall.
Dania's rear wall is made of pressure applied concrete (gunite) over 12 inches
of solid pour concrete.
CONTRACANCHA
The wooden, foul area of the court. This is out-of-bounds for the ball;
however a player will spend a lot of time catching and throwing a ball
from this area.
LATERAL
The name for the side wall of the playing court. The side wall is made of
pressure applied concrete (gunite) over 12 inches of solid pour concrete.
